CRISIL Risk & Infrastructure Solutions' senior team participated at the 4th Annual Operational Risk Management Forum held in Dubai on May 22-23rd, 2012 as a Silver Sponsor. The Forum included informative, in- depth & interactive panel discussions on risk & control self assessment practices in the Middle East, Operational Risk Management functionality, Key risk indicator monitoring, Incident Management, Op-Risk risk practitioner skills and the latest innovations in Op-Risk management technology. The event brought together leading risk management professionals from banks and financial institutions in Middle East, Africa and South Asia.



Mr. Rajat Bahl, Director - CRISIL Risk & Infrastructure Solutions made a presentation on Challenges in Implementation of Operational Risk and Solutions thereon. The presentation covered insights on
  • Elements of Operational Risk Implementation based on a case study for a large Indian Bank
  • Challenges faced during implementation
  • The importance of Process, Risk and Control libraries in ensuring faster implementation
  • Role of software systems in operational risk implementation
  • Identification of areas for insuring Operational risks
CRISIL Risk Solutions also hosted a dedicated booth wherein potential clients were provided insight into our offerings in the area of operational risk management as well as overall enterprise risk management.

Through the conference, team members from CRISIL Risk & Infrastructure Solutions shared their insights on operational risk & Basel II/ III implementation experience across banks in South Asia, South East Asia, Middle East & Africa. The discussions primarily involved around banks wanting to expedite their operational risk implementation including scale-up thereof across the bank's various units. In addition, banks were keen to understand the implementation of Advanced Measurement Approach to Operational Risk especially with reference to the data requirements.

» CGD Companies Face a New Paradigm
CRISIL Risk Solutions participated as the Knowledge Partner for the recently concluded "CGD Innovative Products & Services Conclave 2012", held in New Delhi on 4th April, 2012. The event brought together leading thought leaders and service providers to address challenges that Indian City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies face. This was the second such Conclave hosted by the Indian Petro Group.

Mr. Pavan Bhalla, Associate Director, represented CRISIL Risk Solutions, where he provided insights on the need for customer risk profiling and compliance management, given the need for CGD companies to improve profitability and monitor an ever changing regulatory landscape. Pavan also spoke about the need for identifying new pockets of growth for CGD companies as marketing exclusivity periods of many come to an end, thus exposing them to competitive forces, from the present monopoly position, CGD companies are used to. Other speakers at the Conclave shared insights and details about breakthrough technologies being developed globally that could improve throughput and safety in the physical infrastructure assets of Indian CGD companies.

A total of 40 companies, with 120 delegates were present during the event. Representatives from CGD companies from across the country participated in the meet as did delegates from companies with plans to get into the sector, such as Oil India Ltd and ONGC.

» CRIS at the Small Business Banking Network Conference, Dubai, UAE
CRISIL Risk & Infrastructure Solutions senior team participated at the CEO and Senior Leaders Roundtable conference held in Dubai on February 21-22nd, 2012. The signature conference was a key leadership forum of the Small Business Banking Network (SBBN), connecting peers from different countries to discuss emerging innovations and global best practices. The event brought together leading professionals from the banking, development, and country markets to build a community dedicated to increasing access to finance for small businesses.

Mr. M. Ramsekhar, CEO of CRISIL Risk & Infrastructure Solutions presented on Risk Rating Systems for SME lending providing insights on global SME footprint & impact on the overall economy, SMEs in India and regulatory initiatives, impact of internal and external ratings on SME lending and components of Risk Rating Models & Scorecard for SME lending. Risk Mitigation Strategies for Small business banking were also discussed addressing some common risk and priority areas in small business banking including capital and operating implications of Basel II/ III. Our experience of developing and deploying SME rating and scoring models across various banks and financial institutions in India and abroad were also shared.
