CRISIL Ratings webinar on sugar sector: On a sweet run

Summary

India's sugar production has been rising in the current season as spells of adequate monsoons and high reservoir levels boosted cane availability.

While domestic consumption has stagnated in certain segments due to the Covid-19 pandemic, higher exports and increasing diversion of cane for ethanol blending are likely to keep sugar inventories in check.

Higher margins in distillery operations, including ethanol supplies, will support the profitability of domestic sugar mills and help them offset the impact of higher cane prices and lower realisations from co-generation projects.

In this context, CRISIL is organising a webinar on the sector.

The webinar will include a presentation by CRISIL's experts on the following aspects:

  • Demand-supply dynamics in the global and domestic sugar sectors
  • Profitability trends
  • Credit outlook for both, integrated and non-integrated sugar mills

This will be followed by a panel discussion with senior industry leaders, and a Q&A session.
