Ushering in a new era of Portfolio Monitoring

Heightened regulatory scrutiny, a challenging macroeconomic environment and breakneck technological innovations have compelled banks to reevaluate their existing portfolio monitoring frameworks and reengineer those to align with contemporary demands.

Several banks are using advanced portfolio monitoring techniques for timely and accurate risk identification and mitigation.

In this context, CRISIL is hosting a panel discussion titled 'Ushering in a new era of Portfolio Monitoring' on Wednesday, June 12, at 601 Lexington Avenue, Midtown NYC.

The event will shed light on industry best practices for proactive credit portfolio monitoring, including the use of advanced analytics and technology, such as alternative early warning indicators, negative news analytics and tech-enabled covenant monitoring.

The discussion will cover:

  • Increased regulatory scrutiny and the extent to which tech-enabled portfolio monitoring solutions can help banks enhance their preparedness
  • Key challenges impacting effective loan monitoring by banks
  • Adaptation and augmentation of the existing portfolio monitoring framework; for example, exploring alternative data sources and sharpening/ validating existing predictive models
  • Leveraging technology to gather insights/early indicators of potential stress from covenant breaches, traditionally a manual operational activity
  • Reliance on artificial intelligence or machine learning tools versus traditional tools; guardrails in place while exploring artificial intelligence
