After a decadal low growth of 6% last fiscal, the Indian information technology (IT) services sector is expected to stage a strong recovery this fiscal, with 10-11% growth. Though the Covid-19 pandemic impacted discretionary spend across end-use verticals last fiscal, it did increase IT outsourcing and accelerated digital transformation in many sectors.
Meanwhile, despite slower growth, operating margin printed at a seven-year high 25% last fiscal, riding on significant cost savings. This fiscal, an increase in employee cost notwithstanding, operating profitability should remain largely stable, supported by increase in the share of digital deals and higher automation.
