Demand for Indian textiles, hit hard by the pandemic that caused a sharp decline in economic growth last fiscal - impacting income levels and restricting discretionary consumer spend in both domestic and export markets - is expected to revive as the world learns to live with the virus and countries expedite their vaccination drives.
Among the textiles segments, cotton spinners are seen gaining from high spreads between price of cotton and cotton yarn, backed by buoyant demand. Home textiles makers, on their part, are benefitting from sustained consumer focus on health and hygiene.
Over the medium to long term, new schemes such as Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and integrated textile parks are also likely to help revive India's export competitiveness, especially for ready-made garments (RMG).
Against this backdrop, CRISIL is conducting a webinar on the textiles sector, which will cover:
Demand outlook for cotton yarn, home textiles and RMG
Competitiveness of Indian textile manufacturers in key export markets
Impact of lower allocation towards export incentives
Assessment of PLI scheme and its impact on textile exports
Segmental profitability trends and credit outlook for cotton yarn spinners, home textiles and RMG players
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with industry leaders and a Q&A session.
