Spectrum Auctions to see lukewarm response from the players

Department of telecom (DOT) has notified the schedule of spectrum auctions starting from March 1st, 2021, which will see sale of spectrum across 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 2500 MHz bands. However, 3300-3600 MHz band which is most preferred for 5G has been excluded.

Crisil Research expects the auctions to be a tepid affair with the sale garnering bids amounting to Rs.400-600 billion against Rs.3.92 trillion worth of Spectrum being put for sale. This is mainly due to exclusion of preferred 5G bands and capex prioritization among the players
