India's demand for steel grew 14% on-year last fiscal, while globally it contracted ~1% amid sluggishness in major economies such as China, the United States and the European Union.
Over the medium term, domestic demand is expected to remain healthy driven by the government's continuing infrastructure push and a robust automotive sector.
However, such domestic demand meant India became a net importer of steel after several years of being a net exporter.
How will the export-import trends play out in the short to medium-term? How will it impact the domestic steel industry, which is likely to see sizeable capacity getting commissioned in this and next fiscals?
How will raw material prices trend? Will they support margin improvement this fiscal? What would that mean for cash accrual as manufacturers continue with their capex plans over the medium term?
For answers, CRISIL Ratings is organising a webinar where its experts will present insights on:
Outlook on global and domestic demand and supply for the steel sector
Key drivers for domestic steel demand
Trends in steel and raw material prices, and operating margins of steel makers
Assessment of the export-import scenario and the potential implications for domestic players
Credit outlook for both primary and secondary steel makers
This will be followed by a panel discussion with industry experts and a Q&A session.
