Only 48 of India's top 100 corporate disclose sustainability spends
In this capsule, we dissect the sustainability measures and initiatives of India's top 100 companies by market capitalisation.
Specifically, we ask: How much are these companies incurring on sustainability-linked capital expenditure (capex) and research and development (R&D)? How transparent are they about these spends? Which technologies or areas are they investing in? And what has been their trend in emissions and energy onsumption over the past two fiscals?
Mind the gap
In this issue of ESG Readings, we have analysed the fiscal 2022 annual reports of India’s top 50 companies by market capitalisation, comparing them over several gender-related metrics that try to capture the multi-dimensional aspects of gender equality.
The Scope 3 series
Scope 3 is a mini-series of analyses within CRISIL MI&A Research's larger ESG::readings series, also launched this month. It focusses sharply on the materiality of the GHG Protocol’s Scope 3 emissions - often the hardest to capture and least disclosed in any industry - in different sectors.

How India's nine ESG mutual funds stack up
In the first report of this series, we publish a first-of-itskind ESG scoring of the nine active ESG mutual funds in India, based on CRISIL’s proprietary 2022 sustainability scores of companies that form a substantial part of their portfolios.
We assess how closely the funds are fulfilling their mandates - a useful baseline for future, ongoing evaluations.
